GVCA COMMUNITY ART STUDIO

Be Part of the Vision!

The Grand Valley Creative Alliance is launching the GVCA Community Art Studio—a 5,900-square-foot community-driven creative hub located at 539 Colorado Avenue, in the heart of Grand Junction’s Creative District. This space will empower artists, makers, and creative entrepreneurs by providing affordable access to professional-grade studios, open workspace, and educational opportunities.

From ceramics and fiber arts to printmaking and community collaboration, this space will serve as a vital resource for creatives of all backgrounds to learn, connect, and create.

Why This Matters

The GVCA Community Art Studio will address a vital need in the Grand Valley’s creative landscape. Many local artists and makers face barriers to affordable studio space, access to professional equipment, and opportunities for collaboration.

Since 2022, community surveys have made it clear:                    there are unmet needs in the community and there is strong demand for a dedicated space where creatives can gather, work, learn, and grow together.

What We’re Creating

With your help, we will transform this space into:

Community Art Space – A flexible, multi-use studio for co-working, exhibitions, workshops, and interactive art experiences.
Ceramics Studio – Equipped with pottery wheels, kilns,

slab roller, and glazing stations for all skill levels.
Printmaking Studio – Featuring solvent-free processes, etching presses, Moku Hanga, and bookbinding workspaces.

Fiber Arts Studio – Dye kitchen and surface design work areas for a wide range of techniques.

In these spaces, we'll offer:
Workshops, Classes, and Open Studio Memberships – Facilitating hands-on skill-building and creative entrepreneurship.

How You Can Help

We are raising over $1.8 million to renovate and equip the GVCA Community Art Studio, creating a hub for artists, makers, and creative entrepreneurs.

Your support will:

  • Fund the building purchase, securing a permanent home for Grand Junction’s creative community.

  • Renovate and modernize the space, including façade restoration, safety upgrades, energy-efficient enhancements, and ADA accessibility enhancements.

  • Equip studios with professional tools, ensuring artists have access to pottery wheels, kilns, printmaking presses, textile equipment, and more.

  • Expand community access, providing scholarships, free programming, and inclusive space design to make creativity accessible for all.

Join Us!

Your donation, sponsorship, or partnership will make a lasting impact on the creative future of the Grand Valley.

Every dollar brings us closer to opening a thriving hub for artists, makers, and entrepreneurs.

💛 Donate today and help us build a space where creativity thrives!

Community Art Studio Guiding Principles

Hand holding a paintbrush reaching over containers holding various colors of paint.

  • Collaborate with and fill the gaps between other facilities in the region
  • Self-sustaining
  • ADA accessibility
  • Educational component
  • Model roughly on Manitou Springs Art Center, Art Lab Fort Collins, and other similar spaces
  • Focus on activities not easily done at home - in studio spaces such as a dye kitchen and ceramics studio, with equipment such as printing presses, etc.
  • Space for open studio use with tiered rental fees
  • Locker/shelf rentals
  • Workshop studio/meeting rentals
  • Focus on a few things rather than trying to please everyone
  • Target audience - begin with focus on adults of all ages, adding youth (after school programs, etc.) as capacity is expanded
  • Contribute to the Creative Economy, providing creatives a place to produce artwork as well as a retail space to sell it.
  • Access to ample parking (could be offset by adequate public transit)
  • Location - preferably downtown GJ, preferably within/adjacent to GJ Creative District, which mirrors DDA boundaries
